belt buckles |
In the summer of 2003 I noticed that I had an attraction
to picking up 'junk' off the ground that grabbed my eye. I decided to
amass it and try to be creative in some fashion. So, I now have a tupperwear
that is full of off-the-sidewalk/roadside things ranging from segments
of pipe, hairpins (below), washers and insulated wire, to cork, beach
glass and shards of copper. I return to it every once i a while, so check
back. |

I made these that summer in 2003. I also made a necklace and 'flower'
which i gave to Talia.
Above is made of metal lathe, steel wire, a washer and a hairpin. Below
is a segment of what looked like flattened, yellow, metal pipe. with steel
wire run through it. When in SF for my birthday that summer, I took a walk
through Golden Gate park and found the belt below, on the ground. The snap
(the only part I paid money for) was apart of a collection of things I
got at the ____, next to the ReBuilding
Center in north Portland, with a $5 coupon. |

This buckle is one I like because it's fairly simple just
a gaint square washer and some copper wire. |
This
started with what looks like a gate hinge, which I found in the gravel
lot of a gas station somewhere in South Carolina... it may sound like
the
beginning
to a mystery novel, but no. Rather it was from when I was with the
Flyin'
Squirrels returning from our trip down to GA, Spring
2004. I managed to bend the triangular section so it better fits
the curve of body & belt. I filed the threads off the bolt I put
through for the pin, so that it doesn't chew up the belt. |
